I love Morrissey, that’s no joke. So to leave this song off this countdown would be absurd. “Irish Blood, English Heart” focuses on Morrissey’s joint Irish/English heritage and was also his first single in over seven years when released. If you ever get a chance to see him in concert, do it. I took my dad a few years ago for Father’s Day and it remains one of his favorite gifts! (You know, unless hell ever froze over and there was a Smiths reunion.)

Number 22 comes to us from Kings Cross, North London. The Pogues play pretty much the most Irish of Irish music. Shane MacGowan, the singer and songwriter of the group is a pretty wild guy and has a very interesting history. More recently he worked on a song with the Dropkick Murphys for their album “Blackout,” and I’m sure that collaboration will see the light of day on this countdown before it’s through.
