The purse itself is my black Harajuku lovers purse that my Mama D got me for Christmas. May actually be the perfect bag ever. But on to the contents:

1-Keys, duh I need them to open and shut doors

2-My Amazon Kindle Fire that my dad got me for Christmas. I never go anywhere with out it. It’s honestly the best thing I’ve had and is my new best friend. My iPhone is jealous.

3-Lipstick. I can’t remember the brand but it’s a burgandy color.

4-a pen. I always have a pen. Which leads to me buying a lot of pens because everyone knows I have pens.

5-my Hello Kitty id case I bought at HepKat in San Luis Obispo when I went down for Tristan’s birthday. It holds my ID and my credit card. I don’t really need much else.

6-Burt’s Bees chapstick. Very important stuff. I am addicted and I blame Ben.

7- one 8 ounce soda. I carry one of these most week days. It’s the actual serving size of coke that you’re supposed to have and you get these 8 to a pack instead of 6 like with the pepsi products. I don’t drink one every day but I like having one by my side if I am needing the caffiene.

Last night during the Grammys some outfit I liked came up on my Facebook feed and I showed it to Ben and he said “Oh so you like more conservative clothes then?” And it sort of threw me for a loop because I don’t think anything about my sense of fashion is conservative other than the fact that I WEAR clothes instead of hankerchiefs.

So in honor of this horrific revelation that I’m “conservative” here are some looks I like:

I am actually most likely too short for this to ever “work” on me, but Jennifer had one I borrowed often and it really did me justice. Hers had verticle pin stripes that really made look taller though.

Gwen Stefani is fucking flawless

Gwen Stefani is not much taller than me. And I could kiss her for the Harajuku Girls line because she does seem to remember what it was like to not be a millionaire. But this outfit is so classy and edgy, if I could get my hands on something similar I’d be all over it.

I guess as I was when I first moved to SLO, I’m just a victim of not knowing where to go even though I have been EVERYWHERE. Our Forever 21 is like some derelict homeless shelter’s cast off closet. We don’t really have a high end department store. Our thrift stores pretty much straight up suck and the boutique stores are either importing clothes from New Jersey or fashion for us “common people,” is just a joke of the highest order these days. I don’t know, but I’m not plunking down 50 dollars for a blouse that is less structurally sound than a napkin.

I must be getting old.

So wait, let me get this straight. A grown man is mad about something on FACEBOOK. Facebook. A social networking site that for teens of this era is the equal of talking to a friend on the phone or at very least writing in their diary. You’d be hard pressed to find a kid who at some point hasn’t complained about something their parents have done. And Facebook is the new way of doing that. It’s just kids expressing themselves.

However I get the feeling that in Mr Jordon’s house expressing ones self isn’t very popular and probably isn’t allowed. It probably gets you called stupid or dumb or immature or worse. I have a feeling that in that video we’re seeing the “nice” version of Mr. Jordon and not the day to day of what his daughters life is like.

Why would I think such a thing? I mean who am I to judge? Shouldn’t this man be able to “parent” his child any way he wants?

A gun is a violent tool. I don’t disagree with people’s rights to own them but it is a violent tool. It has one purpose and one purpose only, to kill. If that be in self defense or for hunting purposes, whatever, guns are for killing things. Like hammers are for putting nails in things, guns are for killing. Pure and simple. What else would you use one for? I mean you could try to hammer a nail with one but why? They make less explosive tools for that.

To teach your child a lesson with a tool made for killing is well pardon the word play, overkill. I know it’s a radical notion that children have valid feelings or that sometimes maybe they get frustrated and need to talk about how they are frustrated, but sometimes they do. I was a teenage girl not thaaaaat long ago and it does get frustrating to have every one dismiss your feelings because you are “just a child.” Your age does not determine how you react to having to constantly mop up mud or how you react to being belittled because you need a list to help you manage your time or how you feel about being embarrassed by your parents on the entire internet.

There are a lot of people calling this guy father of the year. I think that’s crap. If this had been a video about a husband blowing holes in his stay at home wife’s laptop for being frustrated with the amount of things she has to do when she doesn’t “work” for the money he spends on her, people would be calling for his head on a stick. At least rational people. Because the act was violent. The notion behind it was violent. It was threatening. I know some people are taking it as a “ha ha kid, you don’t know everything,” but I saw it as “If you don’t behave, you could be this laptop.”

Kids are not born disrespectful. And if they are treated with respect and nurtured instead of talked down to and bullied into behaving in a way adults find acceptable they will learn respect. Children mimic what they see around them and if this is how Mr Jordon and his wife and ex-wife parent their child, through shame and threatening tactics, well… its no wonder she’s acting “disrespectful.” Your kids act how you treat them.

Telling your child they are stupid, immature, unimportant, etc hurts. It stings. It stays. They don’t forget. That little girl was angry about something besides chores and having to do something. She wasn’t being a “bratty teenager” who didn’t want to do her chores. She was complaining about a lack of respect. I don’t think it’s out of line to give a child allowance for doing chores. It helps teach them responsibilty with both work and money. I can almost promise that girl would know the value of a dollar that Mr Jordon seems intent on teaching her with violence if she was rewarded for her work in a small monetary fashion. Instead of buying her stuff and then using it as a weapon to lord over her, let her earn it. She’ll value it more and feel like a grown up and start acting like one. Provided of course her father ever treats her like one.

I’m disgusted with the amount of people cheering this guy on. It makes me sad for children across the country that people are starting think corporal punishment is the way to go with their kids. Those belt straps leave marks that last forever.

Al went out of his way to say hello to me whenever he saw me, always had a smile for me and supported so many people I loved and downtown Bakersfield where some of my favorite memories took place.

I was so sad to hear about “Naked” Al passing away over the weekend. It’s just a reminder of how fragile our lives are. I was lucky enough to know Al and I am just so sorry to know he’s gone. I hope his tattoo shop stays there forever and I hope whoever is running it realizes how special it is to the various weird individuals who go there to find family and friendship and a place to belong.

Pirating is bad, and I understand that. I have friends who make a living off their copyrighted works. I have first  hand knowledge as to what that’s like and that’s WHY I’m NOT for this bill.

Neither of these measures would help stop pirating. It’s just going to give the government (who’s been hella stellar about caring about what we want, srsly) the power to censor the internet. Who wants that? I want to see Oprah’s face photoshopped onto a cats head or whatever. The internet is FULL of wonder and awesomeness and by letting these bills pass, government is basically shutting down forms of creative expression… art even. Who wants to kill art?

I am not a girl with Daddy Issues. On the contrary my dad is my best friend. Absolutely I can tell my dad anything. I called my dad from jail when I got arrested and told him exactly what happened. Both times. When things get insane, my dad is the first person I call. Because my dad is a feminist too. My dad has always taught me I can and will do anything I want. That I can be anything I want to be. That I am just as capable as anyone with the other set of genitals. My dad is who taught me to ride public transport, to work, to not be afraid to walk at night if I am aware of my surroundings (because really no one, male or female should be out not knowing what’s going on, get off your phones, seriously!) My father and I work in the same industry and I’m sorry to say it’s still pretty male dominated but because I’ve always had that support behind me, guess who’s the boss lady now? This bitch.

I’m sure somewhere on the internet someone is all, “OMG this woman just called herself a bitch, that’s so derogatory!”

Whatever, get over yourself.

It’s not a man’s world, this is something I’ve learned and some knowledge I’ve earned.

I have a few amazing girlfriends in mind that I want to do something with. I want to start a punk version of Big Sisters. I want us to pool our resources if it’s art, money, books, time, pen pal timing whatever together and find a few girls every year and give them all the love and support we can. I know some of the most amazing women in the world and I know I would’ve loved having people like Aurora or Kim or maybe even someone like me in my life , as angry teen. (I swear we’re all just learning what it is to be angry and everything pisses us off!)

I was lucky. I had my Dad. I had my cousin Michelle who I swear gave birth to the best baby ever. I had my amazing and actually shockingly punk rock Grandma Hazel and I had my Aunt Sharon and Ms Augustine/Clark and later my Mama Denise. Some girls aren’t that lucky. I want to give them what I know and with my friends help, I know I will.

Paneer anything is pretty much my favorite. I like curries too. I haven’t been to Indian Food since Thanksgiving weekend and I have to admit I’m jonesin’ pretty hard for some right now.

Like I avidly love sushi. I’d learn to make it at home if I thought I wouldn’t botch the job. Luckily Ben likes sushi too and takes me probably every two weeks or so. I’m spoiled.

Yes I know I can make sandwiches at home but they’re always better when someone else makes them for you. I can’t duplicate the bread at home, I don’t care what you say.

I love tacos. Fish tacos are my favorite but I’ll take a plain rice and veggie taco too. I love tacos. Did I mention that?

Pizza is the one food Ben and I can both eat and usually agree on the toppings. If someone else goes out with us sometimes we get two so he can have meat but damn I love pizza.

My favorite movie of all time

He’d never seen it and I doubt he’ll ever let me watch it again because I have all the words memorized. Every single bit of the script? I probably know it. This is because my good girlfriend Jackie and I were OBSESSED with this movie in Junior High school. We used to watch this and Pump Up the Volume endlessly when we’d spend the night at each other’s houses giving each other horrible home hair cuts and gossiping about boys. And when you think about it, wow what a dark movie for a kid to love but whatever. It’s hilarious and well written and just about as subversive as any John Waters flick out there. Only with less Divine.

Anyway Ben really enjoyed it and I’m so glad it’s on Netflix to Watch Instantly. This is the kind of movie that in this post-Columbine world could NEVER be made again. And while there’s a dark story line, there’s also a really strong anti-bully stance there as well. If you haven’t seen this movie and can get past the Dynasty era fashion, watch it immediately. If you don’t giggle at least once I’ll give you those two hours of your life back.
